How to Learn Microsoft FoxPro Online

microsoft,foxpro,software

FoxPro is a text-based procedural programming language  that is very useful for creating interactive, high-end performance software and powerful database management systems. If you are new to FoxPro or have some skill in the field, you can learn FoxPro in a short period of time by enrolling in an online study course that will teach you how to use FoxPro efficiently. There are a number of great course options that use video tutorials to teach you how to program with FoxPro.

Things You'll Need:
  • Microsoft FoxPro

Step 1:

Identify which version you want to learn. There are many versions of FoxPro in use, with Visual FoxPro 9.0 being the latest. Since the differences from one version to the next are minor, it is generally recommended to learn the most recent version, even if you expect to use a previous version of FoxPro.

Step 2:

Decide which FoxPro course you wish to take. There are several great courses to choose from. Microsoft, Garfield Hudson and Alvechurch Data are popular options that team both beginner and advanced lessons in how to program with FoxPro.

Step 3:

Enroll in the FoxPro course at the site you have selected. Most sites offer free and affordable online FoxPro courses, with tips, e-books, pdf files, how-to articles and practical tools. Some websites offer video lessons, which feel more like a traditional classroom setting. You can read through the articles and books to learn on your own. Certified courses will require a fee. Some online FoxPro sites offer career and certification training by format and location.

Step 4:

Open your lesson plan. The tutorials will provide coding tips and techniques. You can also choose downloadable videos on FoxPro. You can redo the exercises and lessons at your own pace. The best method would be to copy the lessons with your own version of FoxPro. Learn the codes unique to this version and unlearn the older codes and commands of the previous version. They have been known to give varying results. Also the SELECT -- SQL limitations of the command are now obsolete.

Step 5:

Attend online classes to learn FoxPro in a detailed and extensive way. Online tutors provide virtual classrooms for one-to-one training. Unlike videos, the student gets the chance to interact directly with the instructors in a classroom environment.

Tips:

Taking a periodic refresher course may remind you of elements you have forgotten.
